Ancient sculpted wooden reliquary statue of the Virgin and Child Jesus Presentation 18th century
18th-century polychrome wooden reliquary religious sculpture, representing the Virgin presenting the Child Jesus to the faithful. The Virgin adopts an elegant contrapposto, the sway animating the drapery and enhancing the gesture of presentation. The devotional composition is very clear: the Child is held forward in the arms, offered to the gaze and prayer, an iconography documented under the name "Virgin presenting the Child" or "Presentation." The base is hollowed out to receive a relic, confirming its function as a reliquary sculpture. There is a double patina with old retouching, traces of its liturgical history. The bottom of the base has been restored, consolidating the whole piece. Wear, losses, and stabilized holes from ancient wood-borers. Polychromy with visible old retouching. Good overall stability, a rare and authentic piece with great presence. Dimensions: 42 cm x 14 cm x 12 cm.
