Old walking cane / light dandy cane, late 19th century – c. Finial depicting an anthropomorphic head in an Orientalist/colonial style, carved from solid ebony. Hat (fez) and turned-down collar carved and engraved in a beautiful period-grained material (the top of the hat is guilloché). Dimensions: total length: 80 cm. Full head carving, no missing wood.
Original use-related dust preserved in the eye sockets and raised details. Grained material elements: natural drying crack on the period hat, no loss or chips on the collar. Shaft: sound and very light.
No ferrule at the lower end, with a small superficial loss of bark at the tip. In the interest of eco-responsibility, my shipments are made using second-hand boxes (sourced from a DIY company). In the same spirit, the packing chips are biodegradable, made from corn starch, water-soluble, and compostable.
