Antique Carved and Gilded Wooden Altar Angel - France, Late 18th / Early 19th Century. This antique altar angel, of French origin, dates from the late 18th century to the early 19th century. This celestial figure, with a gentle expression, is depicted holding in its hands a small censer suspended by a delicate chain.

A strong liturgical symbol evoking prayer and spiritual elevation. The body of the angel retains its original gilding, with a warm and authentic patina. As is often the case with ancient religious sculptures, one wing has been restored with a concern for conservation and aesthetic legibility. The wings have been regilded during a careful restoration.

The finish, executed with great care, offers a result very close to traditional gold leaf gilding. There are slight ancient cracks on the forearms, without affecting the overall stability; the sculpture is stable and has been reinforced during restoration. The whole rests on a wooden base, adorned with gilded regule feet with floral decoration, adding elegance and stability to the sculpture.

A high-quality antique object, typical of altar or chapel decorative elements, probably originating from a church or religious ensemble. Height of the angel alone. Late 18th - Early 19th century.
