"Goatling" in glazed earthenware with anthropomorphic decoration, Pays d'Auge (Normandy), around 1850. A very unusual and charming goatling. The body of the vessel, glazed in deep green, rises into a sculpted head with naïve features topped with a stylized headdress, evoking a folkloric character. This unique piece represents a stylized figure integrated into the shape of the vessel, with two side handles and a circular headdress reminiscent of rural traditions. The figure carries a "bottle" on its back, with the neck clearly visible.
The deep green and golden brown glazed colors are characteristic of the workshops of Manerbe and Pré-d'Auge. Glazed earthenware with copper oxide, giving a typical glaze. An object that is both utilitarian and decorative, this jug illustrates the popular craftsmanship of Normandy, blending humor, rusticity, and expressiveness. These jugs were often used to hold cider or calvados. Dimensions: height 23 cm, width 13 cm.
