Very beautiful bas-relief in applique, representing the Virgin Mary, in very good condition for this 18th-century German work in natural oak. The treatment of the face is very sensual, the Virgin is depicted with her head tilted to the left. This conveys both her pain and her hope.

The veil that surrounds the face and the upper part of her tunic are sculpted with numerous relief folds. These folds that envelop the central part of the bust have both decorative and metaphysical value. They represent the folds of the soul as well. Good condition with some micro-cracks but nothing serious. Dimensions are 26 cm high, 20 cm wide, and 7 cm deep.

There is a hook on the back for hanging it on the wall.
