Beautiful small whale oil lamp from the early 19th century. Also called a Dutch lamp and "snotneus" (drip-nose), found along the northern coasts of France to Holland.
Weighted base with period sand. This one has the rare feature of being marked with the name Antwerp inscribed on its base; I believe they were mainly used in maritime settings, so I am not at all surprised by its origin from Antwerp, which has long been a major port.
Good condition with a detached and reattached spout, missing a ring on the back for hanging. Width with spout: 7 cm. §§§§§ See my other antique items in my shop!!!
