Add this shop to my favorites. Pair of coconuts finely carved and mounted in cups, with inscription "souvenir de la guyane", with decoration of a landscape with traditional houses and palm trees as well as boats, work of sailor or bagnard (perhaps cayenne bagne), of late xixth-early x20th centuries.

These coconuts are in good general condition. Please note: a lid was broken and then re-bonded, broken on one foot (lack of a piece of foliage), missing the plugs of the lids, the screw steps were probably changed later (track of glue on one), they are a little bent, some wear of time, see photos.

The coconut and the corozo were worked by the sailors as well as by bagnards. The latter worked to spend the time but also and above all to make some money to improve their daily lives. It can also be attributed to sailors on their long journeys. These coconut or corozo objects are beautiful examples of popular art.
