Vintage Soufflenheim Terracotta Mold - Swaddled Baby - Glazed Earthenware - Circa 1950 - Speckled Honey-Ochre-Green Glaze
Charming vintage glazed earthenware mold from Soufflenheim, Alsace. It depicts a swaddled baby in relief, a characteristic figure of Alsatian folk art. The speckled glaze in honey, ochre, and green tones gives it a warm, rustic look. Handcrafted around 1950 and resting on four kiln legs, this piece is in very good condition, with minor surface wear and a small firing flaw on one corner, but no cracks or chips.
The glossy glaze is beautifully preserved.
History & Tradition
In Alsace, molds depicting a baby were sometimes given to new parents as a birth keepsake and a symbolic protection for the home.
