18th Century High Mountain Chest, Solid Wood and Forged Pieces
These high mountain chests were made by blacksmiths, entirely by hand. Wood carvings in oak or chestnut typical of the southwest of France (these crenellations can be found, at the bottom of the chest, on old Spanish furniture from the 18th century). Dating confirmed by a specialist craftsman in high mountain furniture. (could be from the 17th century but the only way to confirm would be to dismantle the lock). The lock paw is not original but has been remade by a journeyman craftsman, faithfully to the original. Beautiful rustic piece, perfect entrance chest.
