Antique Japanese kiseruzutsu pipe case in carved bone - Edo Japan 19th century. This antique Japanese pipe case (kiseruzutsu) is sculpted from natural bone and entirely hand-engraved. The decoration features a Japanese sage in a landscape of mountains and pine trees, a symbol of longevity.

Period: late Edo period - early Meiji, approximately. Material: natural bone / dentine (not elephant ivory). Dimensions: 10 cm long - Ø 3 cm / 2 cm.

In good antique condition with natural patina. It has a visible crack and a small chip from the period, as seen in the photos. An authentic collector's item for enthusiasts of Japanese art, netsuke, inro, and Edo period objects. Hand engraving depicting a scholar / wise man. Pines, mountains, pavilion, a landscape symbolizing longevity.

Fine lines, darkened with ink, typical of late Edo. Honey-yellow with natural old stains.
