STONEWARE TOBACCO JAR - BEAUVAISIS, CIRCA 1860 (NAPOLEON III ERA) This original tobacco jar is shaped like a rustic doghouse. The lid forms a roof on which a cat sits in high relief. The side opens to reveal two niches from which two dogs emerge in high relief, while the entire surface is adorned with sculpted ivy leaves. A superb piece of French folk art in glazed stoneware, showcasing remarkable craftsmanship, especially in the high-relief modeling.

Likely from the Beauvaisis region, circa 1860, during the Second Empire, in the style of Jules Ziegler or his followers. The Beauvaisis stoneware is renowned for its rich brown glazes and fine sculptural reliefs. This rural tradition developed in the 19th century as part of France's regional folk heritage.
