Handcrafted Glazed Stoneware Wall Mask with a Fantastical Horned Face

  

An unusual decorative mascaron in glazed stoneware depicting a highly expressive fantastical or demonic face with two small red horns. This one-of-a-kind piece features beautifully sculpted relief work, with a strongly defined face, an intricate beard and moustache, and raised details on the forehead and hair.

The subtly varied grey-beige glaze reveals the clay’s texture and natural irregularities, while the two red horns provide a striking contrast.

This type of architectural ornament draws inspiration from Greco-Roman mythology and was traditionally used to adorn façades and keystones or to ward off evil spirits.

The unglazed back reveals the clay and firing marks.

A hanging fixture is provided for wall display.
