Old wooden box from the 18th century or earlier (salt box)

It is made of raw wood (oak) in a rectangular shape. Very old work, definitely from at least the 18th century. Use to be defined, maybe a small salt box?

Item in its original condition with signs of age. Presence of the original lock, but without the key. The lid is cracked and partially glued horizontally. The bottom corners are worn, with some missing parts as a result.
