Paul Fouillen 1920 Very Beautiful Pyrograved Wooden Bowl. Bowl on a superbly carved wooden pedestal, hand-painted using pyrographic techniques. On a black and marbled green background, it depicts a couple in traditional Breton attire from popular art. The finesse and expressive character of the faces have a nearly Japanese spirit for the female figure. Elegant details of the headdress and hat, Christian cross, and pipe.

Signature Paul Foullien PF and registered Quimper mark. Before becoming an independent earthenware maker in Quimper, Fouillen collaborated with his brother-in-law Hervé Parterour to produce a line of modern furniture and decorative Breton objects, in the wake of the Seiz Breur movement. He was awarded a medal at the International Exhibition of Arts and Techniques in 1937. This bowl is a beautiful example of the revival of Breton decorative arts from the 1920s/1930s.

The bowl is in perfect condition, without scratches, shocks, or missing parts.
