Rare Antique Alsatian Terracotta Glazed Pudding Mold 36 cm
Old Alsatian glazed terracotta mould - swaddled baby 36 cm
Very old Alsatian glazed terracotta mould depicting a swaddled baby. Warm honey glaze with age-related crazing and a genuine folk look. In local tradition, such moulds were gifted at a child's birth and sometimes used at home or kept as a decorative form. Good condition for age: no cracks, no chips; glaze wear along the upper rim (see photos).
In Alsace, baby-shaped moulds were occasionally given as birth keepsakes, a protective token for the home.
They were hung in the kitchen or brought out for festive baking. As folk-art objects, each piece is hand-shaped and glazed.
