Antique wooden piggy bank carved in the shape of a coffin, with nail assembly, collection slot on the lid. Attached metal cross, old patina, visible handwritten inscriptions "ENFANT" and "ORPHELIN." Object used for charitable purposes for war orphans, closely resembling portable collection boxes. This item is attributed to productions made during World War I, often in a context of scarcity and reflection.

These piggy banks were used to collect donations for war orphans, reminding of the constant presence of death and solidarity in the daily lives of soldiers and families left behind. This one has been preserved as a memory object in a small museum not far from Verdun.
