Rare distaff stand from Savoie, personalized for Philomène Bamel and dated 1896. The base is made of finely turned wood with delicate decorative carvings; the base measures 26 cm in diameter and is height-adjustable. The distaff itself is particularly well carved and inlaid with pewter. Similar models can be seen at the Museum of Popular Traditions in Moûtiers, Savoie.
It measures 125 cm high. The whole piece measures 148 cm at its lowest setting, making it a very beautiful piece of folk art.
