Item Description
Magnificent antique La Rochelle faience planter / basin, octagonal in shape with chamfered corners, dating from the second half of the 18th century. This charming piece of folk art features:
Polychrome high-fired decoration: The hand-painted exterior is decorated with flowering stems, vivid red carnations, olive-green foliage and blue buds.
Authenticity: There is no maker’s mark underneath, which is entirely typical of La Rochelle pieces from this period.
Condition: An authentic piece in as-found condition, showing signs of its age and history.
There are numerous small chips, areas of glaze loss and signs of wear along the upper rims, edges and base, as visible in the photos. There are no major cracks running through the body and no apparent restoration. The white tin glaze remains glossy, and the colours are still very fresh.
