Large pewter platter with a scalloped rim, signed Leclerc in Lille, illustrated and engraved in the center with a Marianne holding a flag and laurel branch (a symbol of victory; it is also noted that she is looking toward and extending the laurels toward the president’s name). Dedication to “Pierre Leroy, president of Le Rossignol in Wasquehal, 1901,” probably an old bird-singing society such as those that once existed in northern France. It should be noted that this platter bears neither a hallmark nor the name Humbert; given the date of 1901, it was likely produced toward the end of the period for these large society platters that were offered as prizes. Its diameter is 37.5 cm, and it remains in excellent condition.
