POPULAR CANE MONOXYLE GROTESQUE DOG IN BOXWOOD 19TH CENTURY? HEIGHT OF THE FERRULE (alone) 16.5 CM. NOTE: THE FERRULE HAS BEEN ADDED.

THIS CANE IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL AND OLDEST IN MY COLLECTION. LIKE MANY GROTESQUE POPULAR OBJECTS, THE INTERPRETATION IS QUITE DIFFICULT; HOWEVER, IT IS NOT TOO RISKY TO SAY THAT IT REPRESENTS A STYLIZED CANINE DOG OR WOLF?

ON THE OTHER HAND, THE CHARACTER REPRESENTED MADE ME THINK OF A SOLDIER WITH ARMS STRENGTHENED LIKE ATTACK DOG TRAINERS. THIS CURIOUS AND ORIGINAL CANE HAS MANY SYMBOLIC AND DECORATIVE ELEMENTS THAT REMAIN TO BE DECIPHERED, SUCH AS THE HEADGEAR, THE BELT WITH A TRIANGLE, THE BEZACE IN THE SHAPE OF A BREAD ROLL. I HAVE ALWAYS HAD A GREAT INTEREST IN WORKS PRODUCED BY SELF-TAUGHT ARTISTS, BECAUSE UNKNOWINGLY, THROUGH THEIR VERY ORIGINAL AND FANTASTICAL CREATIONS, THEY PRODUCED TRUE WORKS OF ART. NOTE: IN THE LAST PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE ANNOUNCEMENT, THERE IS THE POSTER OF THE ANTIQUITIES EXHIBITION AT THE LOUVRE IN 2008, WHICH WILL BE GIVEN TO THE BUYER AND DELIVERED AT THE SAME TIME AS THE CANE. FOR INFORMATION, THIS CANE WAS NOT PRESENT AT THE EXHIBITION.
